First Day on Weight Watchers!!

Well, I have just completed my first day on the Weight Watchers Momentum Online Program. I am satisfied with how my day went. For anyone who has not been on this program before, basically it is a program that helps teach you about portion control and not only that but they teach you what foods you SHOULD be eating! So far, the program has been fairly simple for me because I have always eaten healthy...although the hard part is the portion control! I have to learn to stop going back for seconds! The program gives you a set of points based on your weight and height and how much weight you would like to lose. They recommend to start out with a goal of losing 5% of your current weight, which is what I did. I am allowed 25 points a day. I also have 35 points per week that I can use toward special occasions where I may want to indulge more ;-)

Today for breakfast (no pic) I had 3/4 of a cup of cocoa puffs with 3/4 cup of 1% lowfat milk and a glass of milk on the side. This meal totaled out to a whopping 3.5 points...not bad! I am not much of a breakfast person because I am usually in too much of a hurry in the morning to think about breakfast and at times I am not hungry around the early hours that I wake up. Now that I am on winter break, I find it easier to eat breakfast. I am hoping to continue to eat breakfast every morning from now on because I know how important it is; it is the most important meal of the day!!

For lunch I got creative and made something that I had never made before. My weight watchers program tells me that I should be looking for filling foods that are healthy. Mushrooms are one of the options they give you as a filling food. So I decided to make sauteed mushrooms since I had some sliced mushrooms in my fridge.

On a frying pan on medium heat, I melted 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and put the mushrooms in. I also put a few tablespoons of marsala cooking wine, and 5 cloves of chopped garlic into the pan. I stirred occasionaly until the mushrooms were cooked. I also had boiled chicken the other night and had 1/2 a breast leftover. I mixed the chicken in with the mushrooms. It was really good........and.....only 8.5 points!!

For dinner, (No pic) I had 2 turkey dogs and a serving of french fries. Not the best dinner but, my Mom made it because we were both too lazy to make anything at all. Although, with the two turkey dogs and serving (20 fries) of fries with 2 glasses of water, it is 13 points...which brings my total points for the day to 25...the exact amount! Hoooraaaay!

****For those of you who are contemplating why a dancer needs to be on a diet, let me explain! I have been dancing for 15 years. It is kind of a family thing. My great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and aunt have danced for a combined total of over 100 years! When I was 3, my mom enrolled me in a dance school that taught ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and hip hop. As a 3 year old, I took ballet...and I took ballet all the way up to age 10, when I started taking jazz and tap as well. I took 2 years off from the dancing scene when I was in high school and joined my high school's Color Guard. After finding out that Color Guard was not for me, I went back to dancing in my senior year of high school and it was the best decision I ever made! In my freshman year of college, I was even given the opportunity to become part of the top dancers class at my dance school!

But........the stresses of college and having 2 majors has taken a toll on me! My dance class is only once a week and although I took up other dance classes here and there....I have gained a good 25 pounds since freshman year of college ( I am a junior in college now). I am not happy with how I look and I need to be able to look good in my dance costumes for the upcoming recitals in June! So I decided to be proactive about losing weight. For me, it is easier to lose weight when someone is telling me what to do...which is why I joined weight watchers! I used to have the typical "dancer body" and I am looking forward to getting back there! My weaknesses are CHOCOLATE, pasta, and pizza! Thankfully, weight watchers allows for indulgences here and there, which I love!

My hope is that being on weight watchers will help me to reach my goal of losing 25-30 pounds and getting back on track with healthy eating! Even after my goal is reached, I want to remember my experiences on weight watchers and use those experiences to help me live a healthy lifestyle and also while I am on the program, I want to help others who wish to join weight watchers, or just learn how to live healthy.....which is why I created this blog! I hope that if you're reading this, that the posts I put on here will be just as helpful to you as they are to me and that I can get feedback or advice or answers to any questions I might have along the way. For me, weight loss isn't just a certain goal or destination that needs to be reached...it's a long journey and *I hope* will last a lifetime.

Thanks for reading =)
